marceline smith
"asking For trouble" is the crafty pseudonym of marceline smith, an artist and designer based in glasgow, scotland. I have a degree in printmaking from grays school of art in aberdeen and have been making things all my life, from collages and prints to experimenting with fabric and felt.
asking for trouble's handmade collection includes fabric purses, tote bags, felt flower brooches, vintage ribbon keyrings, covered notebooks and badge sets, all of which mix up modern and cute patterns with vintage materials and traditional designs. everything is made with care and love with hand stitched detailing and materials sourced from around the world.
the current range is very much inspired by japan and my visits there, trying to take in everything from the sensory overload of tokyo's kawaii toyshops to kyoto's beautiful temples and gardens. I use handmade japanese paper (washi), vintage and new japanese fabric and chiyogami patterns in my work and also love vintage patterns, rescuing jacquard ribbon, buttons and fabric from charity shops and car boot sales to be brought up to date with a modern cute twist.
